Clutch for Drivetrain

The clutches are well-suited for use in xEV and other automotive drivetrains.
They enable quiet, efficient drivetrain disconnect and ON/OFF switching at high RPM and high load.
In addition to one-way engagement, selectable clutches can be switched into various modes at the users discretion.

One-way clutch

The unique, compact design allows the unit to be packaged in a small space.

This compact clutch achieves high torque transmission while maintaining a bearing function.
By packaging the clutch and bearing with the inner and outer races as one unit, it is possible to save space in the axial direction, while maintaining high power transmission capability.

Built-In Bearing Type

This "all-in-one" unit consists of bearing and cam elements along with inner and outer races assembled together in one compact package.

This compact clutch achieves high torque transmission while having a bearing function.
By packaging the clutch and the bearing so that they share the inner and outer races, it is possible to save space in the axial direction while maintaining power transmission capacity.

Cam & roller type

Unique design, proprietary to Tsubaki

Rollers are interspersed axially with the cams to insure concentricity. The result is reduced idling friction and quieter operation.

Selectable clutch

The clutch can be freely switched between multiple modes.
Using Tsubaki's long-standing clutch design know-how, the optimum clutch design for each customer's application can be proposed.

Cam type

Cam orientation is controlled externally, thereby allowing the clutch to achieve multiple engagement modes, including: bi-directional engagement, bi-directional idling, forward engagement and reverse engagement.
Its unique design results in low idling friction and enables seamless mode switching.

Multiple cam clutch engagement modes in one unit.

This cam-type selectable clutch provides all possible engagement modes, including bi-directional engagement, bi-directional idling, forward engagement and reverse engagement in a single unit. It does so by means of two selector mechanisms called "inner cage ring" and "outer cage ring", acting upon a proprietary arrangement of opposing cams (patent pending).

Structure

The position of the opposing cams is controlled by a selector that moves axially.
This provides quick high engagement response and reduces drag torque by moving the cams out of contact with other components.

Roller Ratchet Type

The roller position is controlled by an external selector, thereby allowing the clutch to achieve multiple engagement modes, including: bi-directional idling, forward engagement and reverse engagement.
This clutch combines high torsional rigidity and excellent durability performance in one compact unit.

Combines high durability and torsional rigidity with multiple engagement modes into one compact unit.

This roller type selectable clutch provides ON/OFF functionality and simplifies mode switching.
High durability is achieved by distributing the load to the rollers.

Structure

"2-way lock mode" is achieved when both rollers are seated in depressions in the inner race, where their movement is restricted by the outer housing.
By pushing the selector to the first position, one roller is lifted and the clutch enters the "1-way mode".
By pushing the selector once more, to its final position, both rollers are lifted and the clutch enters the "2-way free" mode.
